Brazil recorded 18,074 new cases of covid-19 this Sunday, 26, according to data from the consortium of press vehicles. The moving average of positive tests, which eliminates distortions between weekdays and weekends, stood at 53,798. Above 50,000 three days ago, the number grows for the seventh day in a row. In two weeks, there was an 18% increase. Since mid-May, the country has experienced a new rise in cases, driven by the subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 of Ômicron.
The country also reported 41 new deaths from the coronavirus this Sunday, while the moving average of deaths stood at 193. In two weeks, there was an increase of 20.6%.
In total, Brazil accumulates 670,459 victims and 32,076,972 cases of the disease. The daily data are from the consortium of press vehicles formed by EstadãoG1, O Globe, Extra, Leaf and UOL in partnership with 27 state health departments, in a balance sheet released at 8 pm.
The balance of deaths and cases is the result of the partnership between the six media that started to work, since June 8, in a collaborative way to gather the necessary information in the 26 states and the Federal District. The unprecedented initiative is a response to the Bolsonaro government’s decision to restrict access to data on the pandemic, but was maintained after government records continued to be released.
On Friday, the Ministry of Health reported that 60,384 new cases and 334 more deaths from covid-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours. In total, according to the folder, there are 32,023,166 infected people and 670,229 deaths.
The folder did not update the data over the weekend. The numbers are different from those compiled by the consortium of press vehicles mainly because of the time of data collection.
