Brazil | Confirmation: Remains found in the Amazon rainforest are from a British supplier

According to a forensic investigation, human remains found in the Amazon rainforest belong to British journalist Dom Phillips.

Forensic the investigation confirms that the remains found in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil belong to a missing British supplier. Supplier Dom Phillips and an indigenous expert Bruno Araújo Pereira disappeared on June 5th.

Identity was confirmed from Phillips dental arch. The possible identity of Araújo Pereira is still being investigated. Both still need to be tested for DNA for final confirmation.

On Monday search teams were reported to have found two bodies. British newspaper The Guardian according to the bodies were tied to a tree near the river. At the time, however, the authorities disputed the information. The bodies arrived on Thursday in the capital Brasília for criminal investigation.

According to Reuters, the Brazilian brothers suspected and arrested in the murder of Phillips and Araújo Pereira have confessed to killing and mutilating the victims.

According to AFP, Brazilian police have concluded that the brothers are acting alone. However, there are indications that there are others involved.

Phillips was writing a book on sustainable development in the Amazon region. Araújo Pereira, who specializes in indigenous issues, was his guide.

According to AFP, Pereira had received several threats from forest and mining workers before his death. Pereira worked for an organization that tries to protect the living conditions of indigenous peoples from outsiders.
