Anyone who occasionally browses the world of four-wheelers (or boats) will not be unfamiliar with the name ‘Brabus’. For many years now, the company has mainly made Mercedes cars even more exclusive, with or without a strong kick against the performance figures. As of this year, you no longer have to browse the world of automobiles to get to know Brabus, because they are now launching their first engine: the Brabus 1300 R.
Because Mercedes does not yet make motorcycles, Brabus is joining forces with the Austrian KTM. The result is the 1300 R, an exclusive KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo (with the WP APEX semi-active springs) that is topped with a homemade sauce in the form of ‘Brabus Black and Bold’ design.
Distinctive is the round headlight, which could have come from a Husqvarna version of the Super Duke. But the details go much further with Brabus 9-spoke forged Monobloc Z wheels, lots of carbon, right down to air scoops on the Brembo brakes and a custom seat that can be heated. The frame is painted black, with the addition of CNC machined triple clamps, brake and clutch levers, footrests and so on. Not entirely according to Brabus tradition, little has changed in the performance, despite a separate double muffler. But with the 180 hp and 140 Nm of torque, you’re already going a long way, of course.
The Brabus 1300 R comes in two colors; Magma Red and Signature Black. Only 77 copies of each color will be built (after the year in which Brabus was christened, 1977). You can order via www.ktm.com, the per-orders will start on February 14th at 3pm. Prices are not mentioned, but Brabus is not German for ‘cheap’, just to be clear…
