Dortmund’s 0-0 (Mahrez misses a penalty) thwarts Sevilla’s victory over Copenhagen. The match between Celtic and Shakhtar also ends in a draw
Real take their first defeat of the season, City miss a penalty kick with Mahrez and draw (0-0) in Dortmund. On the fifth day of the Champions League, the blancos lose (3-2) at Leipzig, after falling behind by two goals after just 18 ‘: in group F the match between Spaniards (10 points) and Germans (9) is open for the top of the group and Shakhtar also remains in the running for the (difficult) qualification, drawing 1-1 at Celtic, while Sevilla beat Copenhagen 3-0 and secure third place in group G – the same as City and Dortmund.
BORUSSIA DORTMUND-MANCHESTER CITY 0-0

The Citizens deploy Foden in midfield and the trident with Mahrez, Haaland and Alvarez. Dortmund respond with Moukoko forward and Adeyemi-Hazard wide on the flanks. Just Adeyemi turns out to be the thorn in the side of the English: Cancelo struggles to keep up with him, the 20-year-old tries to send Moukoko into the goal but misses the appointment with the 1-0 several times. City keeps the ball in the game, Borussia is waiting for the right moment to create scoring chances. At the end of the first half, the score is still 0-0. In the second half Guardiola shuffles the cards, inserts Akanji for Cancelo and renounces Haaland to make room for Bernardo Silva: the British light up and win a penalty, granted in the 57th minute for a foul by Emre Can on Mahrez. The Algerian shows up on the spot, aims for the low corner but his shot is rejected by Kobel: nothing to do. In the final, Gundogan and Alvarez try again without success. The match ends clean sheets.
SEVILLE 3-0 COPENHAGEN

Sampaoli focuses on Dolberg in attack and the former “Italians” Gomez and Suso on the flanks, triggered by Isco’s imaginative plays. The Spaniards start strong, but Copenhagen is already dangerous in the first half with the conclusions of Daramy and Haraldsson. The Danes occupy the spaces well and prevent Sevilla from stinging in speed, at the beginning of the second half they also hit a post with 18-year-old Clem. In the last half hour, however, the Sevilla playmakers are exalted: Grabara manages to deny the 1-0 to Isco but shortly after is mocked by En-Nesyri, who deflects a Papu cross into the goal. Copenhagen tries to react by focusing on Cornelius’ strength. In the final, the former Atalanta and Parma serves the assist of a possible draw to Diks: the ball is printed on the crossbar, condemning the Danes to last place in the group. At 88 ‘Isco closes the score with a spectacular shot from the edge of the area, three minutes later Montiel puts the icing on the cake: ball and chain restart and one-two with Lamela, then a right-footed shot from close range on which Grabara cannot arrive. It ends 3-0: for the Danes, the chances of reaching a consoling relegation to the Europa League also fade.
LIPSY-REAL MADRID 3-2

Already without the injured Benzema, Ancelotti opts for turnover and leaves Carvajal, Alaba and Mendy on the bench. The Spaniards start bungling in defense and, after 18 ‘, they are two goals down. At 13 ‘Gvardiol pounced on a Courtois rejected and scored 1-0 on the development of a corner. Five minutes later, Tchouameni fails to intercept a filter, which Nkunku instead checks and sends to the net. The real Real comes out just before the break, so much so that at 45 ‘Vinicius shortens the distance with a header from Asensio’s cross. In the second half Carletto tries them all, changes the full-backs and replaces Kross with the much more offensive Hazard. Real pushes, goes close to 2-2 with Vinicius, but in the 81st minute suffers the 3-1 network on the counterattack. The last goal bears the stamp of the newly entered Werner, good at deflecting Simakan’s low cross behind Courtois. In injury time, Rodrygo scores the final 3-2 on a penalty kick. The Germans thus rise to 9 points in the classification of group F, to -1 from Real who collects the first defeat of the season.
CELTIC-SHAKHTAR 1-1
–
The Ukrainians’ dream of qualification passes from the challenge in Scotland but Celtic, which so far in the Champions League had barely obtained a draw, took the lead in the first half and avoided defeat in the second half. The 1-0 goal was signed by Giakoumakis, who in the 34th minute took advantage of a rebound in the area to pick up the ball and stab Trubin. To answer, the Shakhtar relies on Mudryk’s flashes. In the end of the first half, the 21-year-old finds himself face to face with Hart but misses the 1-1. The redemption bet arrives at 58 ‘, with a shot from the edge of the area that ends up under the crossbar. The match reopens: Shakhtar pushes in search of remuntada, Celtic spoils with Furuashi the opportunity of the potential 2-1. At 72 ‘the incredible happens: Mudryk starts in slalom from midfield, arrives in front of Hart and offers Sikan a ball to bag into an empty net. The teammate misses the control and the ball goes over the end line. The match ends in a draw, with Shakhtar third in the standings and -3 from Leipzig. To snatch a ticket for the second round, after the 1-4 of the first leg, a new feat is needed against the Germans, who will be guests of the Ukrainians on 2 November.
