A mega-event of the Democratic party in the United States brought together, last Thursday night (28), in New York, the current American president, Joe Biden, and former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. With tickets ranging from US$225 (R$1,125) to US$500,000 (R$2.5 million), they were sold out.
The event, according to the party, was intended to strengthen Biden, recently declared the party's presumptive candidate after a string of victories in the Democratic primaries.
In other words, for the group, placing Biden alongside Obama, Clinton and celebrities is intended to project an image of prestige for the campaign of the nation's current leader, who is experiencing popularity problems. In fact, in polls of voting intentions carried out recently, former president Donald Trump (Republicans) is ahead of Biden or technically tied.
Campaign resources
The mega-event was also, obviously, intended to raise funds for Biden's campaign. According to reports submitted to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on the 20th, the Democrat reported having raised US$21.3 million in the same period, totaling US$71 million in total. Trump's campaign raised US$10.9 million in February, totaling US$33.5 million in available resources.
It also weighs heavily on Trump that legal actions are preventing the sale of shares related to the IPO of the Republican's media company, owner of the social network Truth, which resulted in an increase in assets of around US$5 billion .
Meanwhile, the Biden ticket has increased the president's trips to states that are expected to decide the outcome of the election. In recent weeks, for example, he has been to North Carolina and Arizona.
