US President Joe Biden announced today, Tuesday, that he is “sure” to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Xinping, if the latter participates in the G20 summit that will be held in November in Indonesia.
Asked about a possible meeting, he said, “If (Xi) is there, I’m sure I’ll see him.” This comes as tension increases between the two largest economies in the world.
The two presidents have spoken to each other several times since the election of Joe Biden, but they have not met since the inauguration of the US president.
Every conversation between them ends with a promise to keep the channel of communication open at the highest level between Washington and Beijing.
Tensions between the two countries continue to escalate, with a particular focus on Taiwan.
On Friday, the United States announced a $1.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan. And demanded China, which considers Taiwan part of its territory, to withdraw from this deal, threatening to take “countermeasures.”
