In defense of Jorge
The big topic in the MotoGP paddock at the end of Sunday at Misano-1 is the decision – which turned out to be a sensationally wrong – of Jorge Martin Of change bike at the first hint of a downpour which however did not hit the circuit named after Marco Simoncelli. Thetactical error committed by the Prima Pramac team rider – who preferred to do his own thing rather than ‘limiting himself’ to following Bagnaia – was however somehow defended by the one who will be his next teammate in Aprilia, Marco Bezzecchi. Bez finished the race in fifth place, wisely staying on the track when some riders chose to opt for the bike change.
According to him, however, Martin’s gamble was not wrong, despite being leading the championship: “If I had been leading the championship I would have followed Pecco – Bezzecchi admitted to the microphones of the media present in Misano – but I fully agree with Martin’s choicebecause those are the things that if you get them right you end up being considered a genius. If you don’t get them right you end up being considered an idiot. The difference is always a thin line, but he’s not an idiot. He tried and it went badly, but I agree with his choice”.
Radio, no thanks
In this context, Bezzecchi was asked for an opinion on the The idea of introducing radio communications in MotoGP was discussed to try to have the pits better handle situations like this. #72 is critical of this possibility for ‘practical’ reasons: “In my opinion it is really difficult to listen to someone talking to you while you are riding a motorbike.because you are not still. I honestly don’t know if I could hear what is being said to me while I’m driving. Would it be dangerous? No, because I don’t listen anyway”joked the home centaur. “I tried this solution – he then revealed in closing – they let me try it but you can’t hear anything. The bike makes too much noise and we can’t put earplugs in, because ears are essential for balance anyway“.
