Xavi, coach of the Spanish football team, Barcelona, explained that Lionel Messi will continue to welcome him throughout his tenure as coach of the team.
Messi left Barcelona last year in a deal that shocked the football world, especially since the Spanish giant was not able to fulfill the terms of the new contract agreed with Messi.
This meant that Messi could leave as a free player and join Paris Saint-Germain, but so far he has not made the offers expected of him.
Xavi said in a press conference before the Clasico match against Real Madrid on Sunday, that Messi deserves to keep Barcelona’s doors open to him.
He added: “As long as I am the coach here, if he wants to come on a daily basis to watch the training or talk to the coach, what he has given us is invaluable, he is the best player in history.”
He added: “He deserves a big salute from the club. But today he has a contract with PSG, I think he signed for two years.
Xavi moved to talk about the match against Real, where he called his team to change its fortunes against his opponent, although he was not sure whether his team had an “inferiority complex” in front of him.
Barcelona occupies third place in the table, 15 points behind Real Madrid, led by Carlo Ancelotti, knowing that Barcelona has lost in the last five matches against Madrid in all competitions.
However, since the arrival of Xavi, Barcelona have risen to third place in the league, with 34 points from 15 league matches, a record that only Real Madrid managed to beat in this period by collecting 39 points.
“I don’t know if my team has an inferiority complex,” Xavi said.
“It’s a great opportunity to change history, and winning will strongly support what we are working on,” he added.
He stressed: We must be brave, and try to impose our ideas, but we must also be calm, because there will be moments for everything. From my experience, I can communicate calm to the players, it’s just another chance to score three points, and we should try to enjoy the occasion.
