A camerawoman was killed while shooting “Rust” with Alec Baldwin. The main actor spoke publicly for the first time since the accident.
Vermont – Alec Baldwin publicly answered questions about the gunshot accident on the set of “Rust” for the first time. “She was my friend. On the day I arrived in Santa Fe to start filming, I invited her to dinner with Joel, the director, ”said the Hollywood star of the camerawoman who was shot.
At the same time, Baldwin classified the probability of such an accident at “one in a trillion”. During the filming of the western “Rust” he had apparently accidentally shot the cameraman Halyna Hutchins when he was firing a prop weapon loaded with live ammunition during a rehearsal. The 42-year-old died in hospital shortly after the incident. Director Joel Souza was hit in the shoulder and injured.
The 63-year-old spoke out in front of paparazzi who followed him and his family on Saturday in the US state of Vermont. Before that, Baldwin had already tweeted his deepest regrets about the accident.
Fatal shot on the set of “Rust”: Baldwin announces the end of filming
The US tabloid portal TMZ broadcast the interview with Baldwin, according to AFP. “There are accidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like that.” Baldwin supported calls for better control of guns during filming. But he didn’t want to comment on whether he would ever make another film with guns. The production of “Rust”, which was stopped immediately after the accident, would not be resumed either, he said.
In addition to starring in the film, Baldwin was also a producer on the flick. After the fatal shot, assistant director Dave Halls admitted not checking all the bullets in the revolver’s drum before handing it over to Baldwin with assurance that the gun was safe.
In the video from Saturday, Baldwin and his wife Hilaria can see the tension and anger at the paparazzi. The actor criticized her for following him and his family, saying his children were sitting in the car and crying because of it. Both spouses urged that their family’s privacy be respected.
