The Madrid president makes Ossorio the strong man of the Executive by appointing him vice president while the rest of the directors will maintain their powers
Isabel Díaz Ayuso is rearming for the final stretch of the legislature with her sights set on the regional elections of 2023. The president of the Community of Madrid has promoted the Minister of Education and spokesperson, Enrique Ossorio, by appointing him vice president of the regional Executive . A position with which the conservative leader wants Ossorio to coordinate the Government’s action but also to work on the PP’s electoral program for the next elections. “It is the first mission that I have entrusted to him,” he recognized this Wednesday in an appearance at the Royal Post Office.
Ossorio thus becomes the strong man of the Executive to the detriment of the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and the Interior, Enrique López, who loses weight within the regional Executive. Ayuso, however, has assured that he trusts “everyone and fully” and therefore, the rest of the directors will maintain his powers.
«What I want is that, from now on, in addition to coordinating the Government, it prepares it for the new legislature, because our objective is to decide what Madrid we want for the next 10 or 15 years, a decision that should not be taken one day to the next, to put it in an electoral program, ”said the president.
López, who until today was Ayuso’s de facto number two, avoided positioning himself in the all-out war that pitted the Madrid leader against the former leader of the PP, Pablo Casado, and which took the latter ahead. He also refused to appear before the media along with Ossorio and Javier Fernández-Lasquetty when the controversial health contract of the Madrid president’s brother was explained. Two gestures that Ayuso has not overlooked.
