the digital newspaper axios launched this Tuesday (May 31, 2022) a interactive website for US voters explore the most researched topics in their districts during the election period. The panel uses data from Google Trends.
More and more residents of Ohio’s congressional districts are searching Google about fuel prices more urgently than Americans from other states. With the platform, it will be possible to compare what the interests of Americans are with other parts of the USA.
O axios tracks two trends: absolute interest -which ranks the topics that people search the most on Google in their districts; and relative interest – which compares interest in a topic from one district to another.
Residents of Montana’s 2nd Congressional District search for “jobs” less often than people elsewhere. However, despite the low interest in Montana, the topic is still the most searched for in other districts and appears as number 1 of absolute interest.
“The biggest problems for most people don’t seem to be the culture war with adversaries, but the basics”said Alasdair Era, a data scientist who has worked with the axios and Google Trends in the project.
