A big match in La Liga between two teams that are normally used to fighting for Champions League places, but that in recent times have been performing below what their history marks. Even so, the game did not disappoint and left goals, intensity and emotion until the end.
The match began with very advanced pressure from Valencia, which did not allow Atlético to be comfortable in their own stadium. The rojiblancos were unable to draw any dangerous play in almost the entire first half, only through set pieces they put the team in some trouble. However, it was Valencia who did manage to beat Oblak’s goal, on two occasions, after taking advantage of the mistakes of the red and white defense.
The locals were losing 0-2 at halftime, but even so, the public continued to cheer and support their coach, Cholo Simeone. The Argentine did not give up and took out Correa and Cunha in the second half. The Atléticos came out to press up front and managed to lock up a Valencia team that was slowly giving up space. Finally, after a poorly defended corner kick, Cunha managed to make it 1-2, giving the locals hope. And this hope is what led them to equalize in the 90th minute after a rebound by the visiting goalkeeper, and finally come back in the final minutes of stoppage time with another goal from Cunha that made it 3-2.
The Atléticos take a very important victory in the face of their aspirations in the Champions League. With these three points they are in fourth place and put land in between regarding their rivals for the square.
