The former president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldivaraccused the current minister-president of the Judiciary, Norma Piña, of allying herself with the opposition candidate, Xochitl Galvezwith the aim of damaging the campaign Claudia Sheinbaum.
In an interview with Radio Formula, Zaldívar expressed his concern about what he considers an improper intervention by Piña in the electoral process, by ordering an investigation against him without substantial evidence, which he described as “political persecution with electoral purposes.”
“It is clear that Norma Piña is allied with the PRIAN candidate“I have information that the people close to this campaign are very close to Norma Piña,” said the retired minister, who added that the minister-president is using the Court and the Judiciary in a totally unacceptable manner.
The former minister pointed out that this is not the first incident in which Piña tries to influence the electoral process from his position in the Court, recalling a previous case in which he pressured to prevent the resignation of the then president of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, Reyes Rodríguez.
“One of the things that she threatened was that she was going to take the matter to the Court, although the Court does not have the power to intervene in the Electoral Court, nor does it have the power now,” he noted.
Zaldívar emphasized that the complaint against him violates constitutional and legal principles, by admitting an anonymous complaint without evidentiary support.
Furthermore, Zaldívar highlighted that the leak of the complaint to the media before it was officially approved demonstrates a clear attempt to damage Claudia Sheinbaum's reputation and delegitimize her campaign.
The most serious thing and where the political use and electoral intention of Minister Piña is seen is that not only was the complaint leaked, but it was distributed and the admission agreement was massively distributed to all the media and all networks.
“This violates the secrecy of the investigations, violates the presumption of innocence of all the people who are cited there, affects our right of defense and what is sought is to discredit, delegitimize, deal a blow to Claudia Sheinbaum's campaign,” he stated. .
He stated that the Court does not have the appropriate instruments to investigate a minister or former minister, but that Piña's pressure has generated a negative media impact even before any formal process is carried out.
The former minister also recognized the support he received from President López Obrador to protect judicial independence, underscoring the importance of maintaining impartiality and integrity in the judicial system.
“Throughout my life I have always been an honest man, I do not have a single ill-gotten penny. My assets can be reviewed in the way you want,” Zaldívar declared to Joaquín López Dóriga.
“Secondly, I have no problem with there being investigations, what seems reprehensible to me is carrying out political persecutions for electoral purposes, violating all applicable regulations.”
