The president of the Congress, Francina Armengol, has ordered the removal from the Session Diary of the statements by the Vox deputy Manuel Mariscal who assured that the Franco regime was “a stage of reconstruction, progress and reconciliation to achieve national unity.
The words of the Vox deputy for Toledo occurred on Tuesday, during a brief first debate on the vote for the new president of RTVE. In his turn to speak, Mariscal stated that “thanks to social networks, many young people are discovering that later stage of the Civil War was not dark“, as in his opinion the Government “sells”, but it was a time “of progress” and “reconciliation.”
The president of the Lower House was not present then, as she recalled this Thursday, when she finally ordered those demonstrations to be immediately removed from the Journal of Sessions. «This Presidency is not going to accept that in this chamber apology of Francoism nor hate speech,” Armegol pointed out at a moment in the plenary session this Thursday, which is voting for the second time on the election of the president of RTVE.
In her speech, the president of the Lower House has apologized for those praises of Franco’s regime and others that, in her opinion, have occurred again this Thursday and that “are not acceptable.” «From now on, I do this warning to all deputies: that they cannot make an apology for Francoism, which was a dictatorship that caused terror, murders and hatred in our country and that this house is precisely there to guarantee democracy and the rights of all,” he said.
For his part, Vox’s also vice-secretary of Communication avoided apologizing for his words on Tuesday and responded to criticism on social networks: “For the dictatorship that this Government is leaving us. You hate freedom of speech because it endangers your lies. In the Spain in which I grew up, every citizen could think and interpret history freely. We must fight so that it can continue to be this way.
