Numerous police cars have been parked in the residential area on the edge of the Belgian town of Kortrijk since this afternoon. A few streets around the home of the minister of justice have been closed. No one is allowed in, except residents who are checked first. According to sources, the threat level in the area has been raised to level 4, the very highest level that indicates “a threat that is very serious and imminent.”
The minister himself is not present in the house. He stayed in Brussels all afternoon and does not want to comment on the news. His wife and children would be at home and guarded by two police vans outside the door.
Eric Van Der Sypt, spokesman for the federal prosecutor’s office, does not want to say much about the case. “There is a precarious situation in which a number of matters must be investigated quickly,” it sounds. “In the interest of that investigation, we cannot provide any more information at this time.”
Coincidentally, the four Dutch suspects of the previous threat had to appear before the Kortrijk council chamber yesterday. Their pre-trial detention has been extended.
