Australian authorities confirm the prohibition of the social network TikTok on the cell phones and mobile devices of all government workers in that country.

According to information provided by prosecutor Mark Dreyfus, The government fears possible “foreign interference” and says the use of the Chinese app could pose a threat to the cybersecurity of that country.

“After receiving advice from intelligence and security agencies, today I authorized the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation to issue a mandatory instruction within the framework of the Security Protection Policy.
Framework to ban the TikTok app on devices issued by Commonwealth departments and agencies.
The direction will take effect as soon as possible.
Waivers will only be granted on a case-by-case basis and with appropriate security mitigations.
Guidance on the privacy and security risks of social media platforms can be accessed by all Australians and Australian businesses at cyber.gov.au
The Government has recently received the Review of Foreign Interference through Social Networks.
The applications and their recommendations remain under consideration.”
