The woman pointed out that sexual threats were common
One of the women who worked for the foreman accused of exploiting and sexually assaulting female employees on a farm in Torre Pacheco (Murcia) stated this Wednesday, in the second session of the trial, that the man threatened not to give her a job if she did not agree to have sexual relations with him.
The woman, a native of Morocco, uttered these words to questions from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is asking for a sentence of 95 years in prison for the defendant for six continuous crimes of sexual assault and a crime against the rights of workers.
Aided by an interpreter, the woman pointed out that sexual threats were common, and that even the suspect’s family environment contacted his mother, who was in Morocco, to urge her to testify in her favor at the oral hearing. . “He had a really bad time,” she commented.
Likewise, she indicated that she never witnessed any abuse or aggression against the employees who denounced, but that one of them suggested that she go to an association if she had been attacked or threatened by the accused.
Regarding the salary that the suspect paid her after the working day, the woman explained that, depending on the farm to which he was transferred to work, the total amounted to 20 or 25 euros for eight hours of work, with a rest period of 30 minutes. If the day was four hours, the payment was 10 euros.
He also explained that the defendant was known among women of his nationality for giving work to people in an irregular situation.
“fearful” attitude
The Civil Guard lieutenant responsible for the case explained that it was the CCOO union that informed the Benemérita of the facts. From there, the Armed Institute took a statement from the first victim, who went to her premises on September 7, 2020 in a “fearful” attitude and in a state of “panic”. Subsequently, five other women denounced the events, all with the same protagonist, the foreman.
The head of the Civil Guard explained at the trial that all the alleged victims had “the same pattern”: people with a very low economic and cultural level, to the point that some of them could not read or write.
Asked if, as the defendant stated this Tuesday in his statement, he had suspicions that it was a “plot or trap”, the agent insisted that “at no time” was this possibility considered, taking into account the information collected during the investigation.
One of the agents who made the arrest and later entered the farm where the attacks were allegedly committed explained that in one of the rooms there was a mattress without a cover placed vertically against the wall and, on it, a towel. Right next to it was a less dusty area of the floor that matched the dimensions of the mattress.
It should be remembered that the victims located the attacks on a mattress located inside a room in the farm.
“Are lies”
For his part, one of the men who testified for being the owner of several of the animals that were on the farm, acknowledged being a friend of the accused and insisted that the facts denounced by the six workers “are lies.”
“This man — in reference to the defendant — can be denounced for taking two people in the van without permission, but everything else is a pack of lies,” he added.
