Eight people died on Thursday (25) and 17 were injured in a car bomb explosion near a school in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The attack was claimed by the extremist group Al Shabaab, security forces said.
Somali police spokesman Abdifatah Adan confirmed the balance of eight deaths in a statement.
Another security forces official, Mohamed Abdillahi, said the explosion left 11 students injured.
Witnesses told AFP that a military convoy of AMISOM, the African Union (AU) Mission in Somalia, was passing through the area at the time of the explosion.
The al-Shabaab group, linked to al-Qaeda, claimed the attack on military instructors.”
“The school building suffered serious damage and school buses were also hit,” said Ahmed Bare, security guard in the area of attack to AFP.
The director of the Somali capital’s Aamin ambulance service, Abdikadir Abdirahman, posted photos of the explosion site on Twitter and cited a “tragedy”.
