NYT: Russia has activated trolls and bots to influence the elections to the US Congress
American digital security experts and researchers from the Recorded Future group believe that the Russian authorities are launching a campaign to interfere in the US Congressional elections, which will be held on November 8. Moscow allegedly activated the factory of trolls and bots, writes The New York Times.
Researchers suggest that the main goal of Russia’s information campaigns is to weaken support for Ukraine. “It’s obvious that [российские власти] trying to force [администрацию президента США Джо Байдена] stop giving aid and money to Ukraine,” said Alex Plitsas, a former military officer and Pentagon information operations officer who works for the Providence Consulting Group.

The campaign is being conducted through social media accounts purportedly run by Americans. They express dissatisfaction with the policies of the Democratic Party. Basically, bots “operate” among the voters of the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Arizona. If the Republicans win there, they may reconsider the volume of assistance to Kyiv: at least, this is what Moscow thinks, writes NYT.
However, the information campaign is now much weaker than it was in the 2016 US presidential election, experts interviewed by the newspaper believe. However, “impressive viewers” can be affected by this as well.
