Singapore and Ferrari’s regrets
On a track like Marina Bay, qualifying counts for a lot, if not everything. The team knows this well. Ferrariwho benefited last year by capitalising on Carlos Sainz’s pole position but instead paid the consequences of a disastrous Saturday in the last GP.
In the race Charles Leclerc and the Spaniard did their best, also playing strategy with the team, but Starting from the fifth row and without the aid of any Safety Car, the podium was practically impossible. All the Ferrari drivers therefore wondered where the SF-24 would have arrived with at least a sufficient qualification, and even in the paddock they asked themselves the same question.
Alonso’s words
Fernando Alonso, never soft on the Scuderia, believes that the Reds had the pace to win: “Ferrari should have won this race“, this is his comment to the media after Singapore. “It was probably the fastest car of the weekendmy race was not with them and finishing a few seconds behind is positive“.
“I was behind the top four teams and ahead of Perez, usually only ninth and tenth place are available. Finishing eighth is better than our wildest dreams.“, he added. “They are good points, but we were still lapped and had a difficult car to drive all weekend. I think we need to raise the level now, we have some new parts coming in the next races and hopefully they will help us get better performance.“.
