The hosting platform Airbnb announced on Monday (28) the availability of free short-term accommodation for 100,000 refugees from Ukraine in neighboring countries through its non-profit organization aimed at people fleeing crises around the world. .

The directors of the company and its NGO, called Airbnb.org, have sent letters to the governments of Poland, Germany, Hungary and Romania, among other European countries, to facilitate “the reception of refugees within their borders”, according to a press release. . The NGO has recently housed 21,000 Afghan refugees and, in the last five years, has linked a total of 54,000 refugees and asylum seekers from other countries, including Syria and Venezuela, to temporary accommodation, according to a statement from the organization.

The company plans to fund these stays with the help of hosts on its platform and donations from a Refugee Fund it created last year, though it did not specify its spending commitment or timing.

Thousands of Ukrainians continue to flee, this Monday, to their neighboring countries to the south and west, with Poland being the main destination of the more than 500,000 refugees that the United Nations has counted since the beginning of the Russian invasion last Thursday (24). The hosting company said it will provide information in the coming days to owners who want to help Ukrainian refugees with free or discounted stays.
