The region’s administration said “rescuers are already working on the site,” without providing further details about where the air strikes took place in the region, or how far from Kyiv.
Koleba indicated that “according to preliminary information, the strikes were carried out by Iranian-made drones.”
Ukraine has reported a series of Russian attacks with Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks, but Tehran has denied supplying Russia with the drones, while the Kremlin has not commented.
Britain donates air defense missiles to Ukraine
In response to Russian strikes on Kyiv and other cities in recent days, Britain said on Thursday it would donate air defense missiles to Ukraine capable of shooting down cruise missiles.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced the new support ahead of a NATO meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
Ukraine’s allies pledged new air defense systems and more aid on the sidelines of Wednesday’s meeting.
Britain said the AMRAAM, a medium-range air-to-air missile that will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks, can be used with advanced surface-to-air missile systems (NAMS) that the United States has pledged to provide.
It added that hundreds of air defense missiles of other types will also be donated, along with more drones and 18 howitzers.
Wallace stressed that “the recent indiscriminate Russian strikes on civilian areas of Ukraine require more support for those who seek to defend their country. So today they have allowed Ukraine to be supplied with AMRAAM anti-aircraft missiles.”
