Higher education institutions in the UAE are still making significant progress at the regional and international levels, which reflects their determination to provide contemporary academic education that includes an attractive educational environment that keeps pace with the rapid global progress on the technological level.
According to the “Times Higher Education” classification of Asian universities for the year 2024, which was issued recently, six Emirati universities ranked among the best 150 universities in Asia, topped by Khalifa University of Science and Technology, which came in 40th place, while the UAE University ranked 58th, and Abu Dhabi University. It ranked 89th, the University of Sharjah ranked 96th, while Zayed University came in 114th place, in addition to the American University of Sharjah, which ranked 148th.
Among the most notable points of progress achieved by UAE universities, Khalifa University advanced from 45th to 40th place compared to last year’s assessment, Zayed University advanced from 124th to 114th place, while the American University of Sharjah advanced from 201st to 148th place.
The Times Foundation’s arbitration procedures included a number of basic performance indicators, such as teaching, research environment, research quality, and global perception… to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons.
In fact, the steady qualitative progress achieved by Emirati higher education institutions reflects the UAE’s ambitions to develop its national universities so that they become on par with the finest international universities in the United States and Europe, through an innovative educational system that enhances student skills, within accredited competitive academic programs. It is consistent with the priorities of the national agenda of the UAE government, and the transfer of knowledge, expertise and experiences from various countries of the world.
This progress and development witnessed by higher education institutions in the Emirates comes as a result of the established strategies that the state has established in this field, aiming to provide our children with scientific and academic skills and knowledge, based on the absolute belief that education is an essential pillar in building generations capable of reaching the best ranks.
The most prominent of these strategies is the “National Strategy for Higher Education 2030,” which was launched in 2017, aiming to develop an innovative educational system and enhance student skills, as they are the cornerstone of the educational process, while involving the private sector in the process of development and modernization, and focusing on research and studies in developing academic programs. Innovative that enhances the country’s global competitiveness, within an effective quality control system and transparent classification of results.
Our national universities are making great efforts to advance their scientific and academic progress, and to maintain their research and scientific standing. In addition to the colleges and specialized scientific programs that these universities include, they are keen to embrace centers for research and development and launch specialized research projects. Among these initiatives, but not limited to, was the United Arab Emirates University’s announcement to fund 132 research projects in various specializations, across multiple programs, including 38 projects within the Advanced Research Programme, 24 projects within the framework of the Strategic Research Programme, and 48 projects within the Research Grants Program for members of the Authority. New teaching staff, and 17 research projects that fall under the research program, in addition to other projects.
There is no doubt that the UAE’s support for higher education institutions and their continuous development has not only resulted in these institutions obtaining advanced international rankings, but its real fruit has been demonstrated in the transformation of our national universities into platforms for development and providing the best educational and academic outcomes for their male and female students, and a beacon for research and scientific progress. .
