The office of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday (21) that an agreement with Ukraine, Russia and the United Nations to resume Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea will be signed on Friday (22). ). Moscow and Kyiv did not confirm the information.
Ukraine’s grain exports by sea are blocked due to the war started by the country ruled by Vladimir Putin in February. It is estimated that there are around 20 million tonnes of grain blocked in silos at the port of Odesa.
Representatives from the three countries and the UN discussed the issue in Istanbul last week. Afterwards, Erdogan and Putin discussed the matter at a meeting in Iran about the war in Syria.
The agreement will establish joint controls for checking grain at Black Sea ports and Turkey will be responsible for ensuring the security of export routes, as well as establishing a coordination center with Ukraine, Russia and the United Nations.
