Scenes of dramatic rescues – land or air – have revealed the desperation of those still seeking help from authorities in regions completely taken by floods in Rio Grande do Sul. One of them was the rescue of a baby through the roof of a house in Lajeado, one of the most affected municipalities.
According to a video published on social media, the rescue was carried out by the 2nd Army Aviation Battalion, Battalion Casimiro Montenegro Filho on Friday, 3. During the action, the professional broke part of the roof with a brick to better position himself to deliver the child safely to another colleague inside the helicopter.
The recording of the operation moved internet users, who praised the search teams.
The biggest climate tragedy has already affected more than 700,000 people, leaving 66 deaths to date and 101 missing. In total, 332 municipalities were affected, according to the latest report from the Civil Defense of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Since Friday the 3rd, floods have hit Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region.
On social media, residents are asking for help to rescue stranded relatives in cities affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul. The requests come in a scenario in which the mobilization of the Fire Department, Civil Defense and volunteers has not been sufficient to carry out the rescues needed across the state.
