A group of Afghans demands that they be evacuated to the Netherlands at short notice. They want an answer to their demand within two weeks, otherwise they threaten to go to court.
The group writes this in letters sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND), which have been viewed after reporting by the NOS. The letters were sent by Dutch lawyers.
240 Afghans
According to the NOS, it concerns a group of about 240 Afghans who worked for the Dutch. They say they are in serious danger in their country after the takeover by the Taliban. In the letter, the Afghans say they fall under the Belhaj motion adopted by the House of Representatives, which states that all Afghans who have helped the Dutch mission in the Asian country should be evacuated.
Some of the letter writers are already on the Dutch evacuation list, but have not yet heard anything about their departure. The other part indicates that they have not yet heard anything about their request to the ministry in The Hague to be added to the evacuation list.
laissez passer
The letter writers also demand that in the event of an evacuation a travel document is guaranteed with which the Afghans can cross the border. Many Afghans do not have passports and the Taliban do not allow evacuees to board the plane without a passport. A so-called laissez-passer should offer a solution.
On Friday it was announced that a large part of the approximately 2000 Afghans who are allowed to enter the Netherlands cannot come here because they do not have a passport. Due to the chaos in the country, it has been almost impossible to apply for one lately. As a result, many Afghans are without. Last summer, Afghan evacuees were allowed to go without a passport, but then the evacuation was arranged by the Ministry of Defense.
