Ignacio González, president of AECOC, highlighted today in the framework of the second Employment and Talent Congress, organized by the association in Madrid, that people “are the main asset of companies” to subsequently address the challenges that the economy Spanish presents in labor and educational matters.
Regarding the proposal to reduce working hours, Ignacio González has stated that “the sector is not against its teams having greater flexibility and being able to reconcile better, but that the problem is that the issue is not being addressed in the same way.” In his opinion, it is necessary to address this issue from a comprehensive debate on the future of employment, in which the reduction of the working day is addressed together with other aspects that, currently, compromise the economic growth and social progress of our country and that, if not resolved, will compromise it even more in the future. “
We are referring, he indicated, to issues such as the lack of generational change in certain positions and the high levels of absenteeism, or the importance of matching study plans with the real needs of the business community. In the absence of a comprehensive plan that defines what employment model our country needs to be able to compete with the economies around us, we run the risk, as stated by 6 out of 10 mass consumption businessmen, that the reduction of working day means a loss of competitiveness and that those who suffer the most from its implementation are small and medium-sized companies.
Deficit
The president of AECOC has given as an example the situation that we are already experiencing with the implementation of new technologies. “In Spain, in the coming years, there will be a need for 1.5 million information technology specialists. Today there are 900,000. We have a deficit of 600,000 people. It is evident, therefore, that Steam education must be promoted, both in men and women, but we must also focus on vocational training and, above all, on Dual Training, -as we are doing at AECOC- because it is essential. accompany study plans with the real needs of companies.
In this sense, Ignacio González considers that improving our training levels and having qualified professionals is essential to be able to stop the great scourge that we have as an economy, which is none other than low productivity. Likewise, reversing this low productivity involves promoting training, with study plans – both in vocational training and at the university – that better fit the demands of our companies, with innovation, with digitalization, with investment and also fighting against absenteeism. . In this sense, the president of AECOC recalled that “In Spain, 1.4 million people miss work every day. That is more than 7% of the workforce and, in certain sectors, it rises to 10%. That is something that, as a country, we cannot afford.” Ignacio González added that “companies integrated into the mass consumption value chain employ 4.5 million people.
An employer sector
Therefore, we are a highly employing sector and we are also committed to stable and quality employment.” Finally, González has pointed out that the sector’s greatest challenges are “to better transfer the wide variety of professional profiles that we have – engineers, economists, mathematicians, journalists , lawyers – as well as professionals from the various degrees of vocational training who serve as a gateway for our companies – marketing and advertising, commercialization of food products, industrial maintenance – to, in this way, make our employer brand known. And, on the other hand, attract and retain talent. And that means “sell ourselves better” and position ourselves adequately compared to other sectors that are currently considered more attractive.
For its part, Víctor Ausín Rodríguez, general director of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business, has summarized the main axes of work of the Government in terms of employment and talent in three “we are working to reduce unemployment and reach an employment rate of 70% of the active population, it has already been achieved that nearly 50% of young people are studying which, in the coming years, will allow us to improve our levels of competitiveness and, finally, work is being done to eliminate administrative and bureaucratic barriers that limit the possibility of companies of enhance economies of scale, regardless of the territory in which they operate, which will allow them to be much more productive.
