Accident Investigation Board (Otkes) has decided not to pursue the Viking Line’s Gabriella accident.

Gabriella collided with a pier in Katajanokka, Helsinki, in January.

The collision damaged both the quay structures of the Port of Helsinki and the other side of Gabriella. The Sea Spa Pool Sea Pool also suffered damage. No one was injured.

Otkes released on Monday its preliminary investigation report case. Based on the preliminary investigation, Otkes has decided that the specific features of the incident do not require the initiation of an actual investigation.

“In the course of the preliminary investigation, it was found that the effect of the ice conditions in the port basin on the occurrence of the ship’s electricity distribution disruption cannot be ruled out,” Otkes states.

The accident was also dealt with in the maritime court last Thursday. There, too, it became clear that the accident could be due to an ice floe or some other object getting into the bow thruster of the ship.
