Boric won 56 percent in the second round of the presidential race. He represents the country’s leftist forces, opposes neoliberal economic policies and promises to raise the minimum wage in Chile. The president-elect turned out to be two times younger than the current leader of the country, Sebastian Piñera – the incumbent president turned 72 on December 1. However, during his short political career, Borich has already managed to win the elections several times – he was twice elected a member of parliament from the Magallanes region (in southern Chile, occupies the Tierra del Fuego archipelago) and the country’s Antarctic territories.
