A woman was killed and three members of her family were seriously injured as a result of a lightning bolt that struck a beach in the Brazilian state of São Paulo on Saturday, which was exposed to heavy rains, local authorities announced.
The civil defense in the state located in southeastern Brazil reported that “the lightning struck between the water and sand on the beach of Vila Caisara in Praia Grande, resulting in four victims, all of them from one family.”
She added, “A sixty-year-old woman among the victims died, while the others are in danger, but their condition is stable.”
The authorities added that four other people suffered non-serious injuries as a result of the lightning strike, according to the authorities.
Three people died during the last hours in the state of São Paulo, due to heavy rains and strong winds that caused landslides and floods in at least six towns, according to what the official Brazilian news agency reported.
Southern Brazil has faced severe weather events in recent months, including heavy rains and a devastating hurricane that killed more than 50 people in September. Experts expected that these phenomena due to climate change would be repeated.
