The National Police has opened an investigation after a person was injured by a firearm shot in the neighborhood of La Palma, north of the city of Malaga. The victim was transferred to the Regional Hospital with injuries, both in the leg and in the shoulder, and remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition. Sources of the case have explained that no arrest has yet been made for what happened and that “work is being done to clarify the facts.” The first hypotheses point to a fight between clans, the same reason that already left a deceased in 2020 in the same area and at least two shootings this past winter.
Several residents of the neighborhood, one of the most humble in the capital, alerted the 112 Emergency services that “a man had been shot” and that he was on Cabriel street. In one of the calls, a citizen assured that there were “cars passing by on the street and firing shots.” After the notice, several patrols of the National Police, the Local Police and health services traveled to the scene. But, when they arrived, the victim was no longer there: private individuals had taken the man to the hospital. Health sources have explained that he has injuries to his shoulder and leg, and that he is in the ICU in critical condition “awaiting evolution.”
The investigation, as the newspaper advanced South, points out as a first hypothesis that the shooting occurred as a result of a fight between family clans from different neighborhoods in Malaga. Police sources have explained that, at the moment, there are no people arrested for what happened. They are not the first of the same nature to occur in the area: last winter, a 35-year-old man with numerous police records was arrested after shooting several times in the La Palmilla neighborhood, in the same district as La Palma.
In February 2020 and just over 500 meters away from this Sunday’s event, a 74-year-old person died after a stray bullet from a shooting hit him in his living room. The man heard a burst of shots – with an AK-47 assault rifle – and wanted to look out the window of his house to see what was happening. He then received a blow to the back and died shortly after. Six people from the same family were then arrested, although the case has not yet been tried. “The situation of impunity that exists in the neighborhood in the face of the use of high-caliber weapons by a minority means that the majority of the neighborhood lives in fear and insecurity,” said a statement sent that day by the Political Council, the Community Plan of the Palma-Palmilla district and various neighborhood groups.
