Vic – Atlético
King’s Cup
The rojiblancos lived on a knife’s edge for eighty minutes until the Argentine forward appeared.
Atlético saved their furniture and qualification for the next round of the Copa del Rey in Vic, but in exchange they left with an uncomfortable rumble in their head, because they were on the verge of experiencing a night of terror. Against a team from the Catalan elite league (sixth division), the rojiblancos lived on a knife’s edge for eighty minutes.
Without ideas, without football or forcefulness, he found himself without arguments to subdue a group of fans. He suffered despite having all his artillery in the field and without any excuse in between. He was unable to score a goal against a goalkeeper, Agustín Mora, who makes his living as a bricklayer and who also did not need to play the game of his life to contain the few attacks from the professional footballers who stood in front of him.
Atlético ruminated on the catastrophe, but was saved thanks to a penalty that was no longer the providential appearance in the game of Julián Álvarez. It was the Argentine who was in charge of scoring the maximum penalty and also finishing the tie a few minutes later with a double. Thanks to that, a distraught Atlético breathed and, at times, at the mercy of its rival’s counterattacks.
Vic, partying since before the game, had it close. He wanted to make up for those five categories of difference between both institutions with extra courage and physical display and the result was impressive. They left with their heads held high.
