Awards The Finnish Cultural Foundation awarded grand prizes of 35,000 euros to the author and two professors

Finland the cultural fund has awarded three grand prizes. Prizes of EUR 35,000 will be awarded for major cultural works.

The awards are given to the professor Heikki Hiilamoprofessor Jaakko Caprio and author Sirpa Kähkönen.

Professor Heikki Hiilamo is awarded for researching nausea and defending well-being.

Hiilamo (b. 1964), Doctor of Social Policy and Public Health, works as a professor of social policy at the University of Helsinki and a research professor at THL. He has also been Kela’s research professor and director of diaconia at the Church Board.

Hiilamo has extensively studied the Nordic welfare state: poverty, indebtedness, family policy, church diaconal work, health care systems and substance abuse policy.

He has written more than 20 non-fiction books on the topics and published more than 100 scientific articles. Hiilamo has worked as a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and as a visiting professor in Oslo.

“Very active participation in the social debate as a columnist, non-fiction writer and expert is an essential part of Heikki Hiilamo’s research profile,” the press release says.

Professor Jaakko Kaprio is awarded for explaining heredity and the environment.

Kaprio (b. 1952) is a research professor at the Finnish Institute of Molecular Medicine. He previously worked as a professor at the universities of Oulu and Helsinki.

Kaprio’s field of research is genetic epidemiology. He started researching Finnish twins as early as his dissertation in 1984. Kaprio was responsible for the design and implementation of extensive twin follow-up research at the University of Helsinki.

Kaprio’s research team has been able to determine the role of environmental factors and genetic predisposition in the development of addictions. For example, they have identified several smoking-related genes.

“Caprio was already doing international research at a time when it wasn’t as common as it is now. He is one of the most cited Finnish scientists, and his list of publications includes more than 1,300 titles, ”the press release explains.

Author Sirpa Kähkönen receives an award for his written career in dealing with society through people and current issues in historical narrative.

“The award is given to the narrator of iron and granite, time and man,” the press release says.

Kähkönen (b.1964) studied literary studies and history and worked as a publisher before pursuing a full-time career as a writer.

Kähkönen started with two youth books Moon in your pocket (1991) and Locked source (1994). The Kuopio series, which takes place in his own hometown, has continued with nine books since 1998 About black brides last year’s To the green hall. They have become two Finlandia candidates.

Also ranked in the battles of Leningrad Granite man (2014) was a Finlandia candidate.

In addition, Kähkönen has written historical non-fiction books and plays.
