Earlier this month, Best Friends Felines, an animal shelter in Brisbane, Australia, was contacted because a mother cat was found with her six kittens in a parking lot. “It is not known how long she has been there,” said Nikki, who works in the shelter. But certainly mom has been waiting for a very long time keeping her puppies with her waiting for help to arrive.
Mother cat, who was named Aurora, was very hungry and did not have enough food to breastfeed her young. So she stayed with them, inside a basket, trying to feed them as she could and keep them alive. Aurora was very frail and exhausted when she was found, she “she was very thin and could hardly walk on her hind legs,” Nikki said.
Mother cat was delighted when she saw her rescuers with a bowl full of food. She finally understood that her family was safe and she could relax. At that point Aurora was taken first to the shelter and then to the nearest vet, and she regained her strength. In the following days she resumed standing and walking.
“She’s a very good mom now and she always tries to make sure her puppies have enough food and that they have clean fur.” Five kittens are gray in color, while one is white and gray. All of them have managed to open their eyes and are growing well. “Aurora was then taken to a temporary home, and she is getting used to a life in the house well. She loves to receive attention and pampering from humans, and even her coat has become smoother and shinier ». The kittens are also learning to walk under their mother’s supervision. «They play a lot together and Aurora can, from time to time, even take a little break. Their life is now finally peaceful ».
