Rewind to 1999. To a period when the SUV range was limited to a few pseudo-off-road vehicles and electric cars were still rare curiosities with which you could hardly get around the church tower. There was no question of Tesla yet, Dacia had just been incorporated by Renault and the Porsche range consisted solely of pure sports cars.
In January 1999, just before the Brussels Motor Show, the first issue of the Auto magazine appeared, which was renamed AutoWereld a year and a half later. We thought that new name suited the kind of car magazine we wanted to make better. With attention to everything that had to do with cars.
From the latest Skoda and Ferrari to the most beautiful classics and racing cars to the most fascinating stories from small and large car history, AutoWereld bundled the best tests with the best reports. And we have continued to do so, with heart and soul for the automobile.
Times change
The car sector has changed a lot since 1999. AutoWereld has always tried to keep a finger on the pulse and paid attention to the new trends, yet we are and remain first and foremost passionate car enthusiasts with a heart for beautiful, ingenious and high-performance cars.
In 2022 the editors of AutoWereld work in a rapidly changing media landscape. We will continue to produce a paper magazine and invest heavily in our digital channels, increasingly together with AutoGids colleagues. So the next step can probably be guessed. Indeed, we are going to join forces.
Both magazines have enormous expertise and excel in their specialties. With very detailed tests, well thought-out files and practical information in AutoGids and a lot of extra passion in AutoWereld.
The best of both
The editorial teams have now formed a close-knit team. The first fruit of this collaboration will be in the newsagent’s on Wednesday 9 February. Under the name AutoGids, but now interspersed with a lot of AutoWereld influences. We tried to create a completely new magazine, with the best of both worlds.
We are also merging online. Our website and the social media channels of AutoWereld are moving to that of AutoGids, which means more car news, more test reports and more reports on everything that has to do with cars. The content of the websites is now running parallel, soon you will have to be on autogids.be to find the best online content of AutoWereld and AutoGids.
