Jorge Martín took the MotoGP champion crown from Pecco Bagnaia this Sunday, in the last race of the season, after finishing third in Barcelona. Both have met in the paddock and on the podium, where they have given a sportsmanship lesson.
The Italian wanted to focus all the attention on Jorge Martín in his appearance before the media: “I don’t want to take away his prominence. I think Jorge deserves what he has achieved.. I want to thank my team, they have done a fantastic job,” said the Ducati rider before approaching Martinator to congratulate him.
Once on the podium, the two once again showed signs of their good relationship: while Jorge held the sign with the text ‘World Champion 2024’ and celebrated with his team, located just below in the paddock, Bagnaia applauded him on the side from the stage.
“We were close when we were little and I was happy for him last year. There’s no point in getting on badly. He said he’d be happy for me if I won the World Cup, so I invite you to the party today“explained the new world champion later.
A few words to which the two-time champion responded: “I’m happy because he’s a good guy. We’ve always gotten along well, we’ve never had any problems. We’ve known each other for a long time, since 2015, and if a driver other than me has to win , he is one of them. He deserves it and his family deserves it.“.
