Red Eléctrica has contracted 88% more energy for next year 2025 for the Demand Response Service (SRAD), a system designed to balance the system in the event of imbalances between production and consumption.
According to company data, a total of 24 suppliers with a total power of 2,018 MW have been enabled for this auction. During the meeting, offers were received from 21 suppliers, for a total of 192 blocks, with a total power of 1,455 MW.
Finally, the volume of power assigned in the auction was 1,148 MW, to be provided in 4,371 hours, which will mean an amount of around 300 million euros.
The marginal price of the auction process has been 56.43 euros/MW, which represents an increase of 38% compared to the 40.82 euros/MWh registered last year, that is, customers will receive 246,655 euros for each MW that have participated, according to Bamboo Energy calculations.
In 2024, the volume of power assigned in the auction was 609 MW, to be provided in 5,745 hours by 19 suppliers.
The service will be provided from January 1 to December 31, 2025. According to REE data, the active demand response requirement was 2,116 MW and the total number of hourly service periods reaches 4,371 hours.
With the information available, REE estimates that throughout the service provision period, around 41 activation orders may be produced (up to 123 hourly periods). Bamboo Energy assures that “this is one more demonstration that the electricity demand wants to participate in adjustment services if their access is clear and easy and the price signal is attractive.
The SRAD has been activated this year on two occasions to respond to imbalance situations and avoid problems in the electricity supply. In both cases the system worked quickly and allowed the electrical system to maintain the necessary safety standards.
