The Podemos party has informed the National Court that it is abandoning the Pujol case, considering that the criminal action is already “sufficiently covered” by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The group, which has been the accuser since the beginning of the case in 2014, has given up continuing in the macro-case one year before the family’s trial, which will begin in November 2025.
In a writing, Podemos lawyer Jaime Montero points out that his role as a popular accusation “has already contributed with his initiative to the purification of the investigated facts.” Podemos indicates that its presence at the trial is no longer necessary since it has already promoted the investigation of the case “from the very beginning,” which has served “to clarify very relevant facts,” the training adds.
The National Court will judge the former president of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol and his seven children from November 10, 2025 to April 23, 2026 for the origin of the fortune they accumulated and maintained for decades in Andorra without declaring it to the Treasury.
The Prosecutor’s Office requests a sentence of 9 years in prison for the former Catalan president, while for his seven children it requests sentences ranging between 8 and 29 years in prison that his first-born son, Jordi Pujol Ferrusola, demands, as well as million-dollar fines. They are accused of crimes of illicit association, money laundering, falsification of commercial documents, crimes against the Public Treasury and frustration of execution.
The State Attorney’s Office, for its part, does not address Jordi Pujol Soley in its indictment, while for the first-born son it requests 25 years in prison and a bail of 7.7 million euros for tax crimes alone. Podemos requested sentences of up to 16 years in prison for the president and 20 for the first-born son, who will no longer be able to claim when the popular accusation of the case is withdrawn.
According to the trial calendar, the first Criminal Section has scheduled the first days of this trial for November 10, 13, 24 and 27, 2025 at the San Fernando de Henares headquarters, and already in December, the month in which Since there are only two days of trial scheduled, the 15th and the 18th, it will be moved to the main headquarters on García Gutiérrez Street to hold the rest of the sessions.
