Al-Safadi said in a post on his account on the “X” platform: “Israel will not stop its war crimes in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon unless Netanyahu and his extremist ministers are held accountable.”
He added: “They would not have been able to launch all these attacks, including against UNIFIL units, had it not been for the impunity that the international community continues to provide them with, and the weapons that many countries continue to send them.”
Al-Safadi stressed that the Security Council must lift Israel’s immunity and ban all arms sales to it.
He said: “Countries that truly want to end the dangerous regional escalation and seek peace and security in the Middle East must immediately stop supplying Israel with the weapons it uses in its aggression.”
Al-Safadi stressed the need to implement Chapter Seven “to force Israel to comply with international law and immediately end all its illegal wars.”
He considered that otherwise would allow “the extremist Israeli government to work to undermine the credibility of international law and international institutions, and drag the region into the depths of the abyss of a comprehensive regional war, which will reverberate far beyond the borders of the region.”
Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter stipulates that coercive measures should be taken in the event of a threat to peace, ranging from economic sanctions to the use of military force.
