According to the first reconstructions that emerged from the investigations, the motive that would have pushed the man to commit this murder would have been the desire to “to end his depression, as his wife refused to take the medicine for treatment“.
The extreme act taken to end his wife’s suffering
Yet another terrible femicide took place shortly before 1pm today, Wednesday 19 September, in Sixth Levantein the province of Genoa.
A 74 year old man, Giampaolo Bregantekilled his wife, Cristina Marini, shooting her with a legally owned gun. The husband then turned himself in to the police and confessed to the murder.
An extreme gesture decided, according to the first reconstructions carried out by the investigators, due to the severe depression which his wife was suffering from and her refusal to take the medicines necessary to treat her fragile mental condition.

Giampaolo Bregante took the life of his wife, Cristina Marini, 72 years old, inside their home, located in Ancient Roman RoadThe murder was later confessed by the man himself to the police, to whom he explained that he wanted to put an end to his wife’s serious depressive state.
In addition to the 118 health workers, the police officers who are carrying out the investigations on behalf of the Genoa prosecutor’s office also intervened at the scene of the tragedy. The prosecutor in charge of the case is Stephen Puppo.
Bregante, a former ship captain, used a legally held pistol. He allegedly fired a single shot at his wife.
