The boy who killed his parents and brother in Paderno appears lucid and calm during the interrogation: “I didn’t want them to suffer”
An inexplicable tragedy has shaken the community of Paderno Dugnanoon the outskirts of Milan, where a 17-year-old boy exterminated his family on the night between Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September. Daniela Albano, Fabio Chiarioni and their youngest son Lorenzo lost their lives at the hands of their eldest son. During his confession to investigators, he appeared “lucid and calm”.
Authorities have stressed that no real motive has emerged for this triple homicide. The young man spoke of a “malaise” not directly connected to the family, who had been crushing him for some time, without however providing a concrete explanation for the gesture. Sabrina Ditarantoprosecutor at the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office, suggests that, despite hours of questioning, the motive remains unclear.
“He doesn’t give an explanation, but he knows there’s no going back.”
This causes the investigations to broaden towards a broader sociological context, in search of answers.
The night of the crime was a silent horror: the neighbors didn’t hear anything. The 17-year-old, after saying goodbye to his relatives who were celebrating his father Fabio’s 51st birthday, retreated to his room. Around 1:30 a.m. he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and lunged at his brother Lorenzo, hitting him while he was sleeping, mostly in the neck. When Fabio and Daniela intervened, they were hit in the same way. It was the brothers’ father who shouted for help, but unfortunately he too met a tragic fate. The young man who explained to investigators that he had done it:
“Because I didn’t want them to suffer.”
Fabio was the last to die, shot in the back by his eldest son, who did not hesitate despite his father’s request to call for help. This extreme gesture, fueled by loneliness, cannot be explained by the details that emerged: the debt in math to recover, the desire to enlist in Ukraine, and the sad music, in particular the Beatles song The Long and Winding Roawhich the young man listened to obsessively.
Now, investigators are analyzing phones, computers and other devices in search of warning signs or external influences. It remains to be seen whether this absurd gesture could be somehow connected to the dark world of the web or whether it is the result of an internal malaise that grew in silence. Investigators are trying to understand how a young man, for no apparent reason, decided to commit such an extreme act, leaving a mystery behind him.
