Government Leader in the Lower House states that projects should move forward after the completion of tax regulation
The leader of the Government in the Chamber of Deputies, Jose Guimaraes (PT-CE), stated to the Poder360 this Tuesday (23.Jul.2024) that Planalto intends to advance the microeconomic agenda in Congress, after the recess.
The priority, when work resumes on August 13, is to approve the 2nd PLP (complementary bill) regulating the tax reform. Afterwards, Guimarães said that the intention is to pass the PL (bill) 1,725 of 2024which replaces the MP (provisional measure) to establish the Acredita programand the PLP 29th 2017which determines new rules for private insurance.
“I think the semester ended well, as we managed to vote on what was central to the government, which was the 1st PLP on taxation and also the regulatory framework for green hydrogen and the infrastructure investment fund. The president has been following everything closely, whether through me in the Chamber or through the minister [Alexandre] Padilha [ministro das Relações Institucionais]”he said.
Due to the municipal elections in this second half of the year, the deputies will return to Brasília on specific dates for the plenary votes.
Guimarães said that the government will begin negotiations on the 2025 Budget and on the election to succeed the Speaker of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), after the recess.
“We still don’t have a defined position, we will start participating in negotiations now in August. There is still no guidance from the president. We have to remain calm.”he stated.
The leader of the Government in the Lower House stated that communication between government officials in the Legislative Branch improved in the last few weeks before the recess.
On May 29, 1 day after the Congressional veto session in which the Executive was defeated, Guimarães said he was not “all good” in the government of the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), because, if it were, the PT member “it had 80% acceptance”.
