If you are true fans of Gundamyou were certainly aware of the Gundam Breaker 4 Open Beta on PS4, PS5 and Switch consoles that ended this weekend. We, who had already participated in the Japanese Closed Beta, wanted to test this latest version as well before the final release of the game in August. Before proceeding to tell you what we tried, we take this opportunity to confirm that the game will be localized in Italian (and many other European languages) and dubbed in English and Japanese, but also that it will be available only in digital version in our continent, while in Japan there will be a physical version, both Standard and Collector, which will also have a Gunpla to build for the occasion!
The game obviously derives from the great worldwide success of the construction of Gunpla, Japanese model kits related to the world of Gundam to be built following the instructions provided in the package. But after the disaster that occurred years ago with New Gundam Breaker, Bandai-Namco returns to the attack and tries again by churning out what it seems Really a memorable sequel of the excellent but now dated Gundam Breaker 3.
The game formula has remained identical to its predecessor, but it has been further improved in every single aspect, both gameplay and technical.
Same formula? Yes, but improved
Like its predecessor, this new iteration of Gundam Breaker has the following modes: Story, ThisAnd Bounty HunterThe first is easy to guess, and will probably be story missions with cutscenes (it wasn’t present in the Beta, so we’re making assumptions given the predecessors).
The second consists of a slew of Quests (we don’t know how many there will be) where you can choose between easy, normal or hardcore difficulty, and that you can play alone, with the help of the CPU, or with friends online in co-op. You will be pitted against enemies managed by the CPU and they will be structured matches waves of enemies with Gunpla iconic enemies. At the end of these there will be the inevitable end-of-Quest Bosses that will be Master Grade or even huge and powerful Perfect Grade.
In Bounty Hunter instead it will be like in Armored Core (another robotic game but by From Software), you will have to destroy Gunpla in groups of 3 chosen by you from a general ranking, killing which will give you points to spend in the shop for further pieces or customizations, including decals and more.
The main game consists as always in destroying the enemies who will give you their pieces which will be random (from weapons, to the head, to the arms, legs or even the jetpack) and which you will need once you return to the Lobby after the end of the Quest to assemble your Gunpla in the construction and customization section. It is rumored that there are over 250 models present with numerous weapons including laser swords, laser rifles, cannons, shields and much more including the SD Gundam (super deformed version). These pieces will be divided by category, and will have a power rank depending on their rarity and can be further enhanced through a specific shop, increasing your Build Rank by building increasingly powerful and visually beautiful Gunpla.

Let’s take the field
As in previous games, there is a bar at the top left of the screen that indicates theTeam Energy and the chances of being reborn, once they run out it will be Game Over and you will have to repeat the mission. At the bottom left instead there will be the special shots (Ex Moves) to be performed with your Gunpla, including the ability to heal yourself, while on the right there will be the Skills depending on the weapon or equipment chosen during construction.
Obviously during the fights with the various enemies and Bosses it will be possible to lose legs, arms (with relative weapons), head etc., temporarily preventing you from fighting and using your skills, weapons and power-ups, because once dismantled shortly after you will automatically be rebuilt to fight again if the lost pieces are nearby, otherwise you’ll have to get up and go look for where they fell during the fight.
Having said this in the section regarding the customization of your Gunpla, you will have a lot of statistics to check (as it happened in Armored Core) depending on the pieces installed that will increase or decrease certain fundamental parameters to try your hand at the various game modes, and you will also be able to choose the decals, emblems, colors and much more.
Where is the technique?
From the technical side we can say that unlike its predecessor New Gundam Breaker, completely different from the now dated Gundam Breaker 3 which is much more similar to this direct sequel, the game is pretty solidas we did not notice any online lag or frame drops, even in the most hectic moments as the game graphically. The game boasts attractive and simple graphics with cel-shading effects (not present in previous titles), especially when hitting enemies, which made the game so streamlined that it ran without any problems whatsoever.
Even the sound it turns out curated although the music didn’t seem as epic and gripping as in the old days. Probably the only real defect that we glimpsed during our test session, as is to be expected in this kind of game, is the camera which turns out to be a bit too much dancer and not always up to the frenetic action. Even the collisions perhaps need to be reviewed a little, as sometimes the shot is late on the opponent, but nothing problematic that could affect the progress of the game, which instead is more wonderful than then.
Hoping that the defects will be fixed with the Beta feedback, at this point you just have to wait for the final release at the end of August so obviously you can read our full review, which will not be long in coming, and we remind you that the game will also be available on Steam as well as on Console.
