Let’s discover the main new features arriving on the iPhone thanks to iOS 18, the new operating system with a particular focus on customization and with new features for the Cupertino company’s apps.
During WWDC Apple presented the latest innovations iOS 18, the new operating system for iPhone, available today for developers and arriving to the public during the autumn. As usual, the update includes a good number of new features, particularly this time related to customization features.
For example, with iOS 18 app icons they change color automatically in dark mode and users can decide the color of their background to create a unique look. Apps can also be moved freely on the home screen. The Control Center instead it has been redesigned with the “Controls Gallery”, which allows you to enlarge or reduce the size of the icons as desired according to your needs. You can also customize the lock screen controls.
News for messages and emails
A new feature allows you to block the use of an app via Touch ID, FaceID or a preset code and to hide information on its use with the search function and Siri, guaranteeing greater privacy.
As for messages, Tapbacks have been redesigned and it is now possible to react with icons, emojis and stickers to any message received. It will also be possible to schedule messages to be sent at a certain time and the possibility of using bold, italics and various text effects to personalize the texts. Furthermore, it will now also be possible to send messages via satellite connection.
Moving on to Mail, messages can be automatically grouped into categories. For example, with Primary, greater relevance is given to the most important ones, while the others, depending on the content, can be archived in specific collections. New topographic maps have also been added, also accessible in offline mode.
Photos and Game Mode
The app Photo has been completely redesigned and unified into a single view, with a grid of photos at the top and the library organized by theme at the bottom, all to make it easier to navigate and search for specific shots. The photo grid displays your entire library. Users can use the Months and Years view at the bottom, and there’s a button that lets you filter, hide screenshots, and sort them in other ways. The space below the grid includes Collections, with the ability to browse by topics like travel, people, memories, and so on.
Also Wallet undergoes a restyling and introduces new functions, such as “Tap to Cash” through which it is possible to exchange money between two iPhones without necessarily having to share the phone number. In Diary, however, a new search mode and Insight View arrive.
Another novelty is represented by the mode Game Mode, which will soon also be available on iPhone. This minimizes any background activity to keep game performance as high as possible and allow for more responsive connections with wireless controllers and AirPods.
