Max Verstappen (1st, Red Bull): “Crazy race, a lot of things happened. We always had to be on top of decisions. Even as a team we were very good today. We kept calm and entered at the right moments. The Safety Cars lapped us well, but after that we managed to manage the gap well. I had fun, it was a fun race. There is a need for competitions like this every now and then. McLaren and Mercedes were dangerous at different times, it was nice. Suspension problems? There wasn’t a new problem, we know what it is. We won, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.”
Lando Norris (2nd, McLaren): “Pure chaos, very eventful race. I seemed to drive well from start to finish. In the first two stints we were very strong, we had fantastic pace. Then the Safety Car didn’t help me: it had helped me in Miami, today I returned what I had received there. These conditions are stressful for drivers, but also a lot of fun. Here in Montreal there are always unexpected events. Congratulations to Max, he didn’t do anything wrong. We scored a lot of points, I’m happy for the team. Missed opportunity? I don’t want to complain. SC helped me in Miami, it’s racing, it happens.”.
George Russell (3rd, Mercedes): “Honestly it seemed like a missed opportunity: at the start we had a good pace on the intermediate tyres, but we made a couple of mistakes by pushing hard. Returning to fight for victory is the meaning of Formula 1. Let’s take all the positive aspects of this race, podium and pole. There was a close battle at the end with Oscar and also with Lewis, but I think it was a tough and fair race“.
