Aston Martin tempts Cardile
In recent days, colleagues Roberto Chinchero and Leo Turrini have reported a concrete offer from Lawrence Stroll’s Aston Martin to Enrico Cardile, technical director of Ferrari. The Italian engineer, highly esteemed within the paddock, has in fact received an important proposal by the British team and is evaluating its future.
Cardile, 49 years old last April, He has been at Ferrari since 2005, with the Scuderia di Maranello investing in him immediately after university. First the commitment to endurance cars, then – in the horizontal organization desired by Sergio Marchionne – the arrival in Formula 1, in 2016, first as Head Aero Development, then as Vehicle Project Manager, Head of Aerodynamics and Vehicle Project Manager, until reaching the top of the newly created Chassis Area in 2021 and becoming – in 2023 – Technical Director of Chassis and Aerodynamics.
The rumors about the arrival of Adrian Newey in Maranello have thus pushed Aston Martin to present an offer to Cardile, with a view to a rather aggressive internal reorganization of the British team. The objective of Stroll’s men is clear: to excel in 2026, when they will have the Honda power unit. Leo Turrini explained that the presence in Aston Martin of Roberto Fedeliformer Ferrari product manager and Cardile’s mentor, could be an important push for the transfer.
In this framework, the Italian coach would thus take charge of the Aston Martin project, without a cumbersome presence above him, as could be that of Adrian Newey at Ferrari.
And Newey?
As reported by FormulaPassion.it in recent weeks, an official statement on Adrian Newey at Ferrari was not expected as soon as possible. The presence of the British designer at the recent Monaco GP in a Red Bull uniform then sparked rumors in every direction. Cars, Motor and Sportfor example, spoke of a Ferrari no longer interested in the English engineer: the key to interpretation is that of a classic misdirection to calm the waters around the landing in Maranello, given that in recent weeks there has been a certain Red Bull obstructionism on the exact gardening period – a circumstance that falls within the classic role play.
F1-Insider he then spoke of Mercedes swooping on Newey with an offer including shares of the team, currently equally divided at 33% between the German company, Toto Wolff and the sponsor Ineos. There was then a story about a Newey “who can’t get used to the idea of having to spend a lot of time in Italy”a circumstance already widely discussed – and overcome – between the Englishman and the Red, ready to open the doors of Maranello to him as a technical supervisor or in any case with an ad hoc position that can allow him to have all the freedom he desires to unleash his creativity , remote working included.
Frederic Vasseur and Ferrari on Newey have always kept a low profile: but the rumors about a possible farewell of Enrico Cardile do nothing but add further pieces to a mosaic that is increasingly being defined. No hurry. Always barring unexpected twists, which at the moment are always remote.
