ASUS ROG Ally X has been officially presented, here are the differences compared to the basic model.
Computex 2024 was the stage for the presentation of ROG Ally
The new model is proposed as a premium variant compared to the original ROG Ally, without distorting its specifications and concept. To put it in jargon, it is a bump or a revision, rather than a real successor. So let’s try to understand what they are main differences between ROG Ally and the new ROG Allycomparing the two versions.
The specifications
From the point of view of technical specifications, ROG Ally and leaving the graphics sector substantially unchanged, including the display.
ROG Ally The 7-inch display is also identical and for both models it features a Full HD resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, 500 nits of peak brightness and Dolby Vision support.
What is changing, however, is the memory sector: the new ROG Ally
The storage of the new model includes a 1 TB M.2 2280 SSD with easy upgradeability, while the original version stops at an M.2 2230 SSD of up to 512 GB.
ROG Ally X improves port availability and, in addition to ROG Ally’s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DP 1.4 support, it adds an additional USB-C 4.0 port with Thunderbolt 4 and DP 1.4 support.
The design
Lots of small improvements on the design and construction front: ROG Ally X brings a new internal layout complete with an improved cooling system. Given the new technical specifications, the dimensions stand at 280.2 x 114 x 36.9 mm, changing little compared to the 280.25 x 116.5 x 32.4 mm of ROG Ally.
What’s changing though the weight increasing by approximately 70 grams: ROG Ally The increase, however, is justified by the new 80 Wh battery, doubled compared to the 40 Wh of the basic model.
