Bardet was the most interested in obtaining the victory and with 12 km to go the leader was Jan Tratnik, but the Frenchman was 53 seconds behind. The main group was more than five minutes behind, but the fight was expected.
Ineos set the pace with Jhonatan Narváez, but UAE Emirates took the lead to control.
The French rider was the one who fought the most and pedaled the most to reach Tratnik, who was solid at the top and with a difference of 45 seconds. Behind, no one moved and the five-minute difference remained. With a kilometer and a half left, Bardet overtook the leader, Valentin Paret-Peintre, who was 25 seconds behind.
At that point in the stage, Antonio Tiberi, who is sixth overall, accelerated and the group staggered. Paret-Peintre was the winner of the fraction, but the lot was three minutes away and we had to wait what was going to happen.
The pace was devilish, but in the end little happened. A gap opened up among the favorites, but Martínez, Pogacar and Thomas entered with the same time.
