The initiative, presented by the Green Party deputy, Juan Luis Carrillo Soberanis, proposes a reform to the Airport Law that seeks to ensure un fair refund for passengers in case of cancellation or loss of flights.
The proposal comes in response to concerns about the irregular withholding of funds related to the TUA, a practice that, according to estimates, could result in up to 12.6 million pesos per day withheld by airlines.
This charge, which represents between 40 and 60% of the total cost of the air ticket, has been the subject of frequent complaints due to the lack of refunds in cases of flight cancellation or loss, situations in which passengers do not They use the airport facilities.
As established in the reform proposal, airlines would be obliged to refund the full amount of the TUA to passengers who do not show up to board their flight, within a period of 30 calendar days from the date of no-show.
Additionally, the importance of intermediaries providing detailed and timely information about the TUA reimbursement process is emphasized.
The main objective of this initiative is to ensure fair and transparent treatment for passengers affected by flight cancellations or losses, as well as to promote greater responsibility on the part of airlines in the management of TUA.
What is the TUA?
