Pokémon Go It hit the market in 2016. Almost 10 years have passed since this event, but Niantic continues to work to improve the experience globally, and that includes a series of options focused on the Mexico and Latin America region. This is something we saw during the CCXP that took place last weekend, where not only were there multiple activations for fans, but the long-awaited localization into Latin Spanish was also confirmed.
We had the opportunity to attend the Niantic presentation on the main stage of the CCXPwhere Tomás Cortijo, regional director for Latin America at The Pokémon Company International, Omar Téllez, vice president of emerging markets at Niantic, Jacob Kreiimer, senior manager of emerging markets at Niantic, Alan Mandujano, head of Latin America at Niantic, and Rodrigo Mencos, associate marketing manager at Niantic, spoke about the role that Mexico has played in Pokémon Go since its launch.
The event began with the iconic reveal trailer for Pokémon Go that we saw in 2016, and once the managers came out on stage, they discussed some new features that are already available in the mobile game through the most recent update. To start, The biome system has been improved, so the title will take into consideration the place you are in to give you a certain type of Pokémon. For example, when visiting a beach, you can capture a Squirtle or Starmie, water-type creatures.
With this, one of the big focuses of the new update is to bring back players who haven’t experienced Pokémon Go dwarves, so starting today and until June 15, multiple events and exclusive packages in Latin America will be available, which are aimed at new audiences and those returning after a long absence. At the same time, Niantic premiered a new trailer, which was filmed in La Alameda in Mexico City, and is focused on our market.
Last but not least, It was confirmed that the Latin Spanish localization is now available in Pokémon Go. In a subsequent interview we had with Alan Mandujano and Rodrigo Mencos, they confirmed that this was a collaborative effort between Niantic and The Pokémon Company International, with the aim of bringing this experience to the greatest number of players. This is what Alan Mandujano told us about it:
“The location is a job for many people, for Niantic the location is very important in many ways. We want to bring the Pokémon Go experience to as many people as possible.
In 2022 we will launch Pokémon Go in Bahasa Indonesia, which is the language of Indonesia. Our team was very involved in that launch, and we worked closely with The Pokémon Company International. Last year we launched Pokémon Go in Hindi.
Each location job has to be a joint effort with The Pokémon Company. It is something very personal and we thank The Pokémon Company for taking the game to more places, and we hope there are many more. “What we want, both The Pokémon Company International and Niantic, is for more people to have access to this game.”
This was not all. At the end of the main presentation, a very special raid took place. Our friends at Niantic wanted to recapture the magic of the first trailer for Pokémon Gohence All CCXP attendees had the opportunity to participate in a group battle against Mewtwo. It is important to mention that it is currently impossible to capture this legendary Pokémon in the world, so this was a unique gift for all fans.
As if that were not enough, Pikachu was a special guest, and there was even a mariachi to celebrate the series’ mascot. Throughout the entire CCXP there were temporary stops to Pokémon Go, and a simple look at the game showed us an event full of activities that all fans appreciated. Without a doubt, something that shows the importance that Mexico has for Niantic and The Pokémon Company, and This is just one of many participants planned for the future.

On related topics, you can check out our Nintendo coverage at CCXP here. Likewise, this is the importance of Mexico for Nintendo.
Author’s Note:
Like someone who stopped playing Pokémon Go A long time ago, the new update convinced me to enter this world again, thus fulfilling its objective. I can’t wait for next weekend and tour the city in search of a Hawlucha, which is exclusive to Mexico.
